Patriots Equal Best Victory Run From Brady Years with Win Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five scores this season
The New England Patriots tied their top unbeaten stretch from the Tom Brady period as they defeated division rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three scores as the New England squad secured an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's final season with the team in 2019
QB Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The win extends the New England's lead at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York bottom after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had scored first at Foxborough with QB Justin Fields scoring a five-yard TD to conclude the New York's opening drive
But the New England responded in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a big time for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of the rookie. "He aims to be excellent."
Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales booted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots sealed the victory
